Nothing better then new gear! How do you like the new lens?
It looks a little blurred to me John. Might I suggest next time that you use a larger aperture e.g. f5.6 and that will give you a much faster shutter speed. You should aim to use 1/500th or faster at the 300mm end of that lens unless you're using a tripod.
I don't know how you manage to get so many pictures of the hoopoes though - I've still not managed a single one!
